The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has upped the crackdown on suspected looters by calling on a former gubernatorial candidate in Niger State to make himself available for interrogation over the discovery of N6Billion traceable to him.
According to the EFCC, Kantigi Liman, who was the commissioner for Local Government in Niger State and one-time guber candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would be declared wanted if he fails to make himself available for interrogation over the discovery of N2 billion in addition to the N4 billion earlier found in his accounts.
A top source at the anti-graft agency who spoke to Vanguard said: “The discovery brings to N 6 billion funds traced to accounts held by the politician and companies linked to him. The Commission had some weeks earlier traced N 4 billion to two accounts in GTBank, both linked to Liman. The first account belongs to Sadiq Air Travel Agency Limited and the second to Kantigi.
“He is on the run and all efforts to track him down have been futile. The next option left for the Commission is to declare him wanted,” the source added.
It is understood that the politician, who is presently on the lam, is raking in a monthly interest of over N 33 million on the fixed deposits.
Investigations by the EFCC reveal that the funds were siphoned from the Niger State Local Government Joint Account.
The new impetus in the anti-corruption war is as a result of the Federal Government’s whistle-blowing policy that has led to the recovery of billions of looted funds over the past months.
